Sarah Jane Wade
Sarah Jane Wade is a visual artist with an inviting aesthetic, inspired by everyday life with references to historical and contemporary art. Wade's work particularly explores identity and encourages disrupting stereotypes through detailed and curated imagery.
The work shown is from her Final Major Project, Allude magazine, a publication that tackles a different topic prevalent in art in each issue. The first issue of Allude, shown in this exhibition, explores the representation of women in art by alluding to themes of identity, objectification, vanity, and femininity as well as the female artists who have sought to reclaim agency; this is achieved through a series of inspired fashion photography allusions.

Object(ify) – Editorial Image from Allude Magazine, these images are inspired by the work of artist Allen Jones; in particular his sculptural series Women as Furniture. As Jones' work saw women as central to the bondage image, this image aims to subvert this idea.

Smoking Kills – Editorial Image from Allude Magazine, these images are inspired by the trope of women smoking and the way it is glamorised in art and visual media. Taking inspiration from the suffragette movements use of smoking as a symbol of empowerment.

Do you want a piece of me? – Editorial Images from Allude Magazine, this image is inspired by the performance art piece Cut Piece originally performed by Yoko Ono whereby Ono let audience members cut her clothes off piece by piece. Whilst the original art piece was not initially performed with the intention of being a feminist piece, it is often interpreted of such; with this image paying tribute to feminist interpretations of this piece.
