Chun Ian Tsang

Chun Ian Tsang's distinctiveness as an aspiring architect stems from his focus on user experience and implementation of his client and his own passions in his designs. Tsang's creativity takes into account the necessities of structure and material but emphasises the pursuit of an immersive experience. Through narratively driven design work, an understanding of client needs, and awareness of environmental issues, Tsang's approach to architecture and design fosters innovative solutions to the complex spatial challenges put before him. He aims to be both a passionate and compassionate architect. One who may be empathetic with clients and eventual building users while also never being afraid to propose out of the box solutions and speak his mind.

This project proposes the construction of an outdoor theatre (left) and cinema/communal space (right) in Southwark Park in an effort to encourage creativity and allow for more diversity in the activities the park provides. In addition to this, new pathways have been implemented to allow better access between the two sites and throughout Southwark Park.

Ada Salter Cinema Gardens, Elevation/Section
Ada Salter Cinema Gardens, Elevation/SectionThis composites provides a better understanding of materiality, scale, and layout of the proposal. Ada Salter Cinema Gardens includes a cinema, prop workshop, communal gathering space, local food market, and communal gardens. All of which are aligned to a grid created from the form of the cinema.
Outdoor Theatre, Elevation/Section
Outdoor Theatre, Elevation/SectionThis composites provides a better understanding of materiality, scale, and layout of the proposal. Ada Salter Open-Air Theatre was designed with the relationship between audience, performer, and nature in mind. The layout of staff areas behind audience members allows this connection to be fostered as performers move through the audience when ascending to the stage.
Construction Section + Models
Construction Section + ModelsThe construction section detail on the left shows the materials to be used in the proposal. The choice of materials considers environmental studies, structural integrity, and cost. The models on the right depict a simplified 1:50 version of this section and a small facade model, providing a better understanding of the proposal.
