Francesca Fennell

Francesca Fennell is an experimental and visionary designer, creating wearable art and clothing of the future. Fennell specialises in Knitwear, Womenswear and Sustainability, including her work in researching and developing bio-fabrications. Her previous work experience and achievements, being awarded 2nd Place at Ravensbourne University Denim Innovation Trade Show 2023 and interning for the designer Richard Quinn have given her a strong industry foundation and varied skills.

Fennell's final collection, Intimate Nature, highlights the importance of bio-fabrication using microorganisms like lichens for the future sustainability of textiles and fashion. The collection also emphasises the circularity of using dead-stock materials, reflecting Francesca's design ethos. Fennell used the captivating shapes, textures, and colours of the Lichens to create Twill Relief Jacquard Knit (Stool Machine), domestic knit, patterned fabrics, and garments, from dead-stock yarns. She also utilised surplus tents and parachute remnants from Raeburn, London, to craft Lichen and tent-like sculptural garments, influenced by waste-conscious pattern cutting.
