BA (Hons) Architecture

From private buildings to public spaces, architecture plays a critical role in the way that we interact and inhabit the fabric of society, whether this be through the impact design has on individuals, groups, communities or wider society. We shape the towns and cities with the aim to improve them, influencing how we live, work, socialise and play.

The BA (Hons) Architecture course provides students with a strong knowledge and understanding of the practical and theoretical aspects of architecture, ensuring a readiness for professional practice as future change-makers. The course integrates areas of art, philosophy and technology that engenders an experimental approach to solving problems, all in an effort to enable the flourishing of ideas with social, environmental, and economic underpinnings.

Students have the opportunity to explore a range of urban contexts, locally and nationally, demonstrating leadership and professional responsibility associated with their research and design decisions. This is underpinned by experience and expertise in technology, the theories and histories of architecture, professional and ethical practice, and life safety. The application of this knowledge is applied holistically across modules to understand the impact our buildings have on all aspects of everyday life, the natural environment, and those that use or interact with our designs. The Part I award is the first step toward becoming an emerging professional and change maker. We aim to improve spaces, places and environments that our projects engage with.
